Position Overview

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) seeks to hire an Administrative Assistant to support its ongoing operations.

Organization Description

The MEAC is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I conference, made up of 13 (thirteen) outstanding historically black institutions across the Atlantic Coastline: Bethune-Cookman University, Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Florida A & M University, Hampton University, Howard University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina Central University, Savannah State University and South Carolina State University.

Job Description

The Administrative Assistant shall:

· Answer phones during the course of the business day

· Receive and redirect incoming communications

· Provide direct support to the Senior Associate Commissioner

· Provide support to other staff on an as needed/as directed basis

· Respond to inquiries and requests from the conference member institutions

· Ensure and/or facilitate the timely distribution of information – via email, fax, telephone and mail to staff and conference member institutions

· Complete special projects as designated by the Commissioner and/or Senior Associate Commissioner

· Perform office duties such as mailing, filing, typing, copying, preparing travel for staff

· Create, type and review correspondence

· Inventory, order and manage office supplies

· Update institutional information for directories

· Provide support to sport supervisors of officials

· And other duties as assigned


Interested candidates will possess the following:

· High school diploma or equivalent; prefer two or four-year college graduate

· Excellent organizational skills

· Must be able to type 50 at least words per minute

· Must be able to take dictation

· Must be able to proofread

· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

· An outgoing, friendly demeanor

· Capacity to work on various tasks simultaneously

· Ability to work with minimal supervision

· Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook

· Internet proficiency

· Ability to work as part of a team

· Must have a positive attitude
